BREW GUIDES · EVERYDAY FAVORITES

A better pot.
With the brewer you have.

Your automatic drip coffee maker belongs here, too. A little care with the coffee and water is a simple place to start.

Your starting recipe

Brew time
Your machine’s cycle

For a larger batch, use 60 g coffee with 1 litre of water, if your machine supports it. Treat this as a starting point and follow your brewer’s instructions.

From beans to breakfast

  1. 1

    Measure the water

Add fresh water to the reservoir. Stay within your machine’s minimum and maximum batch sizes; its “cup” marks may not match your mug. Millilitres make recipes easier to repeat.

  2. 2

    Add the coffee

Fit the paper or reusable filter designed for your machine. Start with medium-ground coffee and level the grounds gently.

  3. 3

    Let your brewer work

Put the carafe in position, close the basket and select the batch setting in your machine’s manual. Start brewing and let the complete cycle finish.

  4. 4

    Taste, then remember

Enjoy your cup and jot down what you liked. Save the coffee, water amount and grind setting in your journal so your next pot starts from a recipe you know.

Make the next pot yours

Write down one change at a time: the coffee, amount or grind. Your notes can be as simple as “smooth and chocolatey” or “try a little less coffee tomorrow.”
